The remarkable partially gold-plated issue from the Perth Mint was struck from 2 ounces of 99.99% pure silver and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. The motive features an image of the world-famous death mask of Tutankhamun. The unique partial gilding of 24-karat gold as well as the selective color application, provide the mask of the pharaoh with a particularly detailed and realistic look. The pictorial characters from the Book of the Dead, a collection of funeral sayings intended to help the pharaoh on his journey to the afterlife, as well as a nameplate with the hieroglyphics "Ruler of Heliopolis" are depicted in the background. The design also includes the inscription "TUTANKHAMUN 100 YEARS" and the mint mark 'P' of the Perth Mint. The outer ring of the coin has also been gilded, thus giving this coin a unique look. On the reverse, the Jody Clark effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is surrounded by the denomination and issuing state.
Among the world's most famous excavations of Egypt is the final resting place of the ancient Egyptian king Tutankhamun, discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings. Tutankhamun reigned from 1333 B.C. until his death in 1323 B.C. at the age of only 19. The spectacular death mask is an example of ancient Egyptian craftsmanship and was made of pure gold, weighing about 10 kilograms. The golden death mask, as well as the most significant finds from the tomb, can be admired in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The strictly limited gilded Tutankhamun 2 oz silver proof coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
